MISSION and GOALS: To enrich the community through music by providing three distinct playing opportunities for young musicians of all ages.
The LSO’s Youth Orchestra Programs strive to cultivate the artistic growth and excellence of our young musicians by providing an enriching orchestral performance opportunity, and by mentoring these young community players.
PICCOLO STRING ENSEMBLE: Is the starting point for beginners ranging in age from 5-10 who study privately, and are ready to begin playing in a group. While they are not ready to play an entire concert, they are featured at every LSYO concert. They also take part in the LSO’s Musicians in Schools program
REHEARSALS: Piccolo String Ensemble rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:00pm at the LSPA building on Bull Street.

Callie Hammond
Callie Knight Hammond received her Bachelor of Music Performance in
violin from Columbus State University in 2003. She began playing violin
at the age of nine with Peg Neuen, and later studied with Kerren Berz
and Dr. Wei Kang Zhou. At CSU, she studied under Patricio Cobos and
Manuel Diaz. Mrs. Hammond is the assistant concertmaster of the
LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, and also performs with the Columbus
Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Hammond is the director of the Lafayette Youth
Orchestra String Ensemble (LYOSE). She lives in LaGrange with her
husband, Ladd, and her five-year-old son, Hooper.
